An example of the forts captured and built by Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj: Pratapgadh Fort.

Sri Balaji Society celebrated the birthday of one of the best known giants of history, Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with a grand celebration in its premises on the 19th of February. Standing tall as one of the bold leaders who challenged the foreign invaders, Shri Shivaji Maharaj has left an indelible mark on the pages of history, befitting his status as an exemplary king, a visionary and a bold leader. The story of his life is known worldwide and has inspired millions of people across the world. His legacy has acted as a ‘catalyst’ inspiring thousands of freedom fighters and national leaders, seeking to liberate India from the clutches of the Britishers and the other foreign powers that once ruled the country in the past.

What marks Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj out from the many hundred kings in India is that he was the first King who was declared to be the ‘Sovereign Ruler’ of India on the 6th of June 1674, sending a strong message across the country, laying the foundation of the Maratha Empire which ruled a vast portion of the country for 144 years. At the time when we worry about solving mathematical sums and equations, Shri Shivaji Maharaj swore a vow that he would establish an empire of his own, at a tender age of 14 years. From the day he made this vow, Shivaji Maharaj marched relentlessly forward conquering forts and territory with his army of unconventional fighters who relied on ‘guerilla warfare’ to challenge the various Sultanates in the Deccan and the mighty Mughal Empire and succeeded in forming a vast territory that became his empire.

Students of management have a lot to learn from Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He led one of the pioneering efforts for the creation of maritime trade in the country. Further, the students can benefit from learning the skills of negotiation, the art of resource acquisition, resource allocation and management, decision making, administration work, personnel management, the art of diplomacy, skills of marketing and so on lived by Shri Shivaji Maharaj which will no doubt increase their core and enhance their employability in the companies they will be working in, in the future. Further, these skills once learnt, will no doubt will assist them into forming their own empires in the corporate world and make a name for themselves in the pages of financial history.
